Twenty year old college student with her head on backwards

Oh, get your kids ready... I may end up being their school teacher.

That said, I'm Asia.

→ Ask me anything
I used to be his lady...
Me: Hey, sorry, my phone accidentally called you earlier (so ready to hang up).
Him: Okay *chuckles*, but who is this (in that sexy NY Harlem accent)?
Me: Asia
Him: Asia? From where?
Me: *sighs* Jersey.
Him: *surprised* Chocolate Asia?
Me: *sighs* Yes
Him: I didn't know you had my number...
Me: Well, it was saved in my phone and *mumbles* accident. Bye.
Him: Okay miss.

My redemption has begun…

I started my community service and my Alcohol and Drug Education Program (ADEP) classes, as per both my court order and my school.

ADEP was nice, in a way. I have to do the ADEP BASICS program, which is a series of three meetings with the ADEP advisor, Joe. I also opted in for the hour-and-a-half ADEP CHOICES class (which the court ordered, but Joe said is optional).  It was what I was expecting… I thought it’d be a sort of scared straight, don’t ever drink again or you’ll die, but it was really chill. Joe’s a pretty relaxed guy, and we talked about a buttload of other shit while I was there. It’s really comforting to have someone to talk to in confidentiality, and know that they won’t judge you (at least not aloud).

I’m doing community service through the Bonner Center on campus. My friend Jess convinced me to go help out with the kids in Trenton and that’s where I ended up. She’d already talked to her boss, and he was ridiculously cool. He like leaned over and whispered to me like, “What’s up? You got in trouble, right? What happened?” And I just told him about my citation. I have a crush on him, I have for about two years or so. He’s got locks. But, back to the kids. I ended up with a group of kindergarten/ first grade students. I’m excited! I have someone to read my civil rights’ books to! I can’t wait to read the Coretta book to them.

I think I’ll continue with both when I’m done. I mean, I won’t be seeing Joe or the ADEP team anymore, but I want to start seeing a therapist. It’d just be nice to have someone to talk to about anything. And, I really like working with the younger kids. I think I’ll finish out the semester with them. I mean, I’ve already fit them into my weekly schedule.

Back on campus…

My apartment was (and kinda is) still dirty.

The refrigerator had something gross, brown, and sticky spilled in its bottom. The floor was covered (still) in dirt and loose hair. The bathroom floor has hair on it, and the shower has bever been cleaned.

I vacuumed my room floor, after sprinkling carpet dust on it. Then, I swiffered the entire apartment common area (not fun) and cleaned out the refrigerator (even more not fun). But, my apartment looks clean now and the fridge smells and looks clean.

My roommate moved out, so I’m occupying a double. It’s nice to not have her and her weird smells in here, or to have to listen to her play music all day. And, no more nature sounds alarm. Yay!

But, I miss my cat (because I’m a cat lady).

I have two classes tomorrow, and zero syllabi.

Coretta Scott is a poetry book filled with beautiful art (my webcam doesn’t do the artwork justice). The poetry is by Ntozake Shange (Ellington Was Not a Street) and the paintings by Kadir Nelson (When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom).

I bought all of these books when I went to the monument in Washington, D.C.

My favorite book is Coretta Scott. It’s full of beautiful paintings and great poetry.

I cried reading Martin’s Big Words. It’s a biography and features a few prominent quotes from Dr. King.

Tomorrow is a national holiday and day of service. I hope you’re all planning to help serve your community, if you can.

I’ve downloaded so much music and finally updated my iPod.

It’s like a party, all the time.

Too bad I have to go back to school tomorrow.
